Trail & Field Saddlery only uses top of the line components, put together by American born saddle makers who each have over 30 years experience in the art of hand making saddles, one at a time. These are not some foreign import, every item that goes into or on our saddle is American made and they are constructed in American owned and operated shops in the USA!

Overall length of our Bearer Bars is 22 inches (actual hard surface on the horse's back), 
the felt extends to 24 inches, but does not affect the horse except as protection.

Capt. Louis Edward Nolan, killed in charge of the Light Brigade  against the Russian guns at Balaclava in 1854, was responsible for the  Army Universal Pattern (UP), the world's most successful saddle (the  trooper saddle). Initially, the saddle was called the Nolan saddle and  it is sad that the name was not retained as a memorial to the most  advanced cavalry thinker of his time. We proudly offer this model to  the public with the name of The Nolan in memorial to this outstanding  individual.

Francis Dwyer, a professional soldier serving as a 'Major of Hussars'
in the Imperial Austrian Service was the individual whose
contributions to the original trooper saddle addressed rider comfort
and security. It only seems right that our extra plush model be
offered with his name in memorial.

This lightweight saddle is made of rugged fabric; the same used by our  military in Iraq for many items that have to hold up to hard use and  extreme climate. The heavy-duty fabric is coated with Urethane, serving both to waterproof and also making it extremely easy to clean!

  • 1000 denier, coated, scratch-resistant Cordura Fabric. IT IS WATERPROOF!
